As part of celebrations surrounding the 900th anniversary of Leeds Castle, Sarah hit upon the idea of creating a pageant that would resonate across Kent. Applying for a £60,000 Arts Council grant meant having a fully fleshed-out idea, knowing the audiences we wanted to involve, and creating something that would truly reflect the brand.

What we did

We worked with specialists in outdoor festivals to fully flesh out the concept and create utmost inclusion and spectacle. Each century of the Castle’s 900 years was celebrated through stories reflected in costume, puppetry, dance, horses, music and pageantry. Arena shows and living history displays with battle re-enactments and a medieval market brought the site to life. Over 1000 people participated from schools, colleges, musical and theatre groups around Kent, using the grant to make heraldic banners and costumes and organising transport for all to take part in a memorable weekend of splendour.
